Trevor Lawrence relieved not to be coached by Urban Meyer anymore

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is relieved that the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Doug Pederson as their new head coach.

The Jacksonville Jaguars thought they made a move that would send the franchise in the direction of success by hiring Urban Meyer as head coach. But after numerous controversies, the Jaguars had enough and fired him after just 13 games. On Thursday, Feb. 4, the team made the move to hire Doug Pederson as their new head coach.

Pederson already has a huge fan in quarterback and 2021 first-overall pick in Trevor Lawrence, who said that he is relieved that the former Super Bowl champion is his new head coach. You can listen to Lawrence’s full comments in his interview with Ashlyn Sullivan of the team’s website.

Trevor Lawrence relieved that Doug Pederson is Jaguars head coach

Lawrence and the Jaguars had to deal with a lot this season, mostly the controversies created by Meyer. From not traveling back with the team after a Thursday Night Football loss to the Cincinnati Bengals to allegedly kicking former kicker Josh Lambo, the Jaguars decided enough was enough and fired him for cause after going 2-11.

The Jaguars’ head coaching search was far from smooth. Even though they had a head start on finding a head coach, they watched the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders all find their new sideline bosses before them. But, they ultimately landed on Pederson as their next head coach.

Obviously, Pederson is known for the work he has done in his five years with the Philadelphia Eagles. He helped develop Carson Wentz into an MVP-level quarterback in 2017 prior to his devastating knee injury and rode all the way to the franchise’s first Super Bowl title behind backup Nick Foles.

Pederson will now be tasked with developing Lawrence, who is coming off a rookie season where he threw for 3,641 yards, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Football fans saw how dominant he was playing in college with the Clemson Tigers. Now, it is up to Pederson to help Lawrence become one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
