Watch: Eli Manning surprises Michael Strahan with jersey retirement announcement live on-air during GMA (Video)

The New York Giants are retiring Michael Strahan’s No. 92 jersey this NFL season.

While it has been well over a decade since he last played, the New York Giants are finally retiring Michael Strahan‘s No. 92 jersey.

Strahan spent his entire 15-year hall-of-fame career with the G-Men, recording 141.5 sacks and going out on top as a Super Bowl champion in 2007. Not only was Strahan one of the best pass-rushers of his generation, but he was the consummate professional during his playing career. He has since become a television personality on ABC’s Good Morning America and Fox NFL Sunday.

His No. 92 jersey will finally be retired on Nov. 28 when the Giants take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

That’s not the coolest part. The announcement didn’t come from Schefter dropping a tweet, it came live on-air during Good Morning America thanks to some help from Eli Manning and a few of Strahan’s former Giants teammates.

New York Giants to retire Michael Strahan’s number on Nov. 28

Strahan epitomizes the first-class nature of the Giants organization. From being a second-round pick in the 1993 NFL Draft out of Texas Southern to being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Class of 2014, Strahan did it all in New York. His blue-collar work ethic and being able to shine when the stage was the brightest is why Strahan goes down as an all-time Giants great.

While this is great to see finally happen, why did it take the Giants this long to honor Strahan?
