3 guards the Steelers should to replace David DeCastro

With the news that the Pittsburgh Steelers have released David DeCastro, here’s a look at three offensive guards the team could look to sign this summer.

With the breaking news that the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to cut veteran offensive guard David DeCastro, there’s no time for the front office to waste in searching for replacements. Unfortunately for DeCastro, he’s been dealing with a serious injury and may retire.

Because of this, Pittsburgh is now in need of a lineman to step in and not only help protect quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but also help open up holes up front for the running game to take advantage of. There’s three guys in particular general manager Kevin Colbert needs to reach out to, of course including Trai Turner.

3. Trai Turner

At the top of the list, you’d figure that Pittsburgh is already in contact on Thursday with guard Trai Turner. The team recently brought him in for a visit to Heinz Field, which of course brought plenty of excitement for Steelers fans. At the same time, it had people wondering if something was going on with DeCastro. Now, we have our answer.

Turner has been outstanding in recent years, really solidifying himself as one of the best guards in the game. With DeCastro now out of the picture for Mike Tomlin’s offense, Turner could step in and take over things at right guard. The fact that the team already brought him in for a visit shows you how high their interest is in him.

Turner is a 6-foot-3, 315-pounder. From 2014-2019 he was with the Carolina Panthers, being selected to the Pro Bowl five times. Last season he was with the Los Angeles Chargers, but was only able to suit up in nine games due to a groin injury. Now that he’s back fully healthy, he’s looking for a new place to call home.

The Steelers could be the team to provide him with a new stadium for next season. Stay tuned to see if Colbert and Co. are able to get something done here.
