Chiefs bolster offensive line by signing veteran center

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to stay busy making moves for the offensive line, as the team has signed former Rams center Austin Blythe.

Does Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach ever stop working? That doesn’t appear to be the case, as he’s been grinding throughout the offseason to make moves for the defending two-time AFC champions.

On Tuesday, Veach added to things by bolstering the offensive line. According to Kansas City insider Nate Taylor, the Chiefs have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with former Los Angeles Rams center Austin Blythe.

Veteran center Austin Blythe is headed to the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal

After spending the first year of his career with the Colts in 2016, Blythe joined the Rams in 2017 and had been a standout for the NFC West side on the offensive line ever since. After previously playing right guard, Blythe moved over to center last season and started every game there for Sean McVay and Los Angeles.

Now, he’ll head to Kansas City to help an offensive line that has certainly gone over a makeover this offseason. Over the last month, the team has been busy revamping the line, highlighted by the additions of Joe Thuney and Kyle Long.

With Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher getting cut, Veach has made it a priority in going after guys to help protect $500 million man Patrick Mahomes. That’s of course understandable, as Mahomes is without question one of the best players in the game.

Come next season, Kansas City will look to win its third consecutive AFC title and second Super Bowl in the past three years. Veach looks set to do whatever is necessary to help the team make that happen come next winter.
