The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing Chris Carson, hopefully making Russell Wilson happy in the process.
The Hawks have a lot of work to do on the Wilson front, as the star quarterback is understandably upset with the organization after failing to protect him the last few seasons. Wilson has made it clear he’d welcome a trade out of Seattle, though John Schneider isn’t necessarily willing to pull the trigger.
The Seahawks are bringing Chris Carson back into the fold. While Carson is certainly injury-prone, when he’s on the field, he’s electric. Carson is just a year removed from a 1,200 yard campaign, and last season put up nearly 700 yards and four touchdowns. However, Rashaad Penny is emerging as a reliable presence in the Seahawks backfield, pushing Carson as the starter.

Wilson needs protection on the offensive line, which he got when Seattle traded for Raiders offensive lineman Gabe Jackson. Surely, that’s not the last move the Seahawks make in that regard. In the meantime, bringing back Carson only helps matters, as he’s a familiar face for Wilson and a player capable of leading the Seahawks rushing attack when fully healthy.
A short-term deal also gives the Seahawks some flexibility. Carson is only 26 years old, so he probably has another lucrative contract left in him. Signing a two-year contract is a win-win for both sides, giving Carson a chance to cash in on one more deal before he turns 30, and allowing the Seahawks to make sure he’s their running back for the long term.
