The NFC West second wild card spot could be determined by backups if Kyler Murray cannot return for the Arizona Cardinals.
The Arizona Cardinals are a team on the rise, looking to take that next step in 2021. That’s all fine and dandy, but they could be doing it without their best player.
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray left the game during the first quarter against the Los Angeles Rams after being seen limping on the sidelines. He would head to the locker room for further evaluation and was replaced by Chris Streveler.
His status is a must-win game for the Cardinals is now questionable.
Can the Cardinals win without Murray?
The Rams were already down a quarterback following the thumb injury to Jared Goff. Former AAF legend and long-term backup John Wolford was named the starter on Tuesday.
To find any recollection on Streveler, one would actually had to head to a different football league as well. Following his graduation from South Dakota, he would go on to play for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League from 2018-19.
The Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup in his final season.
Murray, whose dual-threat ability offers plenty in the open field, might come in handy against the Rams’ defense. Although the defensive line and secondary have improved, the linebacker corp remains a weak point against the run.
And with limited success from Kenyan Drake at times this season, having a running quarterback usually keeps drives alive.
