Kevin Greene‘s untimely passing has shocked the NFL world, as the Pro Football Hall-of-Fame pass-rusher had a huge impact on former Green Bay Packers star Clay Matthews.
Greene built a Hall-of-Fame career by getting after the quarterback better than just about anyone for 15 incredible seasons. While Matthews is likely a candidate for the Hall of Very Good, he took to Twitter to say how much Greene helped him in his pro career. Together, they won a Super Bowl with Green Bay over the Pittsburgh Steelers at the end of the 2010 NFL season.

Matthews may come from one of the greatest NFL families in the league’s history, but you can never put a price on being able to learn from one of the greatest players at your position group that early into your career. He was only a second-year pro when Matthews won a Super Bowl with the Packers. He spent nearly all of his NFL career starring on the defensive side of the ball there.
It is very rare for an on-field talent like Greene to able to give his wealth of knowledge to an up-and-coming star the caliber of Matthews. A lot of what made Greene such a phenomenal player in his football career was instinctive and a high motor very few professional athletes could rival. This is why Matthews referred to his football mentor as “The Sackmaster.” Greene had 160 in the NFL.
