Big Ben missed an easy touchdown to Derek Watt, and his brother JJ noticed.
The Steelers limped into halftime after a surprisingly close 30 minutes of football against the ailing Baltimore Ravens. Their only touchdown of the first half was a Joe Haden pick-6, which was telegraphed right into his arms thanks to Robert Griffin III.
The Steelers rough start was noticed around football, but one should-be Ben Roethlisberger touchdown got the most attention in Houston. Big Ben missed Derek Watt on a crossing route for what should’ve been an easy score. Instead, the pass fell innocently incomplete.
JJ Watt called out Big Ben in a not-so-subtle manner.
The Steelers lack of urgency in the first half isn’t necessarily surprising given it’s a mid-week game. But missing Watt right in front of his face is a flaw Roethlisberger himself will even admit in the film room.
Could JJ become the third Watt brother to come to Pittsburgh?
Watt has made it clear he’s unhappy with the situation in Houston. The Texans could be entering a rebuild, which Watt flat-out stated he wouldn’t be a fan of.
The Steelers have long been a spot for the best pass-rushers in the game. TJ Watt is once again a candidate for AFC Defensive Player of the Year, though he has some stiff competition in Myles Garrett of the rival Browns.
JJ would cost a pretty penny, but if the Steelers are serious about adding even more firepower to their pass rush this offseason, he could be a prime target. Yet, before trading for Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh was long known for hoarding their draft capital, rather than dealing out first-round picks for proven talent. Any deal for Watt would surely involve a change in that philosophy.
