Logan Ryan owes the Giants training staff for his wife’s life … literally

Logan Ryan listened to a medical trainer, and perhaps it saved his wife’s life

While trainers are meant to help with player injuries on the sideline, they also could help them off the field. That would be the case with New York Giants defensive back Logan Ryan, who credits one of the team’s staff members for perhaps saving his wife’s life.

According to Ryan, his wife, Ashley, was suffering immense stomach pain while at the couple’s house in Florida Tuesday morning. While she wanted to sleep it off, Ryan reached out to an assistant trainer, who told him to tell her to head to the emergency room.

Good thing she did as results proved she needed to undergo emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy.

“The egg was about to burst, so she ended up going to emergency surgery and they ended up saving her and preventing a lot of what could’ve been done,” Ryan told reporters. “A trainer on our team, Justin Maher, telling my wife to go to the ER at 1 a.m. could’ve saved her life — or saved a lot of internal bleeding there. That’s the type of organization we have here.”

Give it up for Justin Maher

Ryan said his wife is recovering well and is expected to make a full recovery. On Wednesday, he made sure that Maher and the Giants organization received full praise for helping save the love of his life.

“There are really good trainers here,” Ryan said. “There are really good people behind the scenes working hard for us to get wins, and I’ll do everything I can to play for a coach like that and play for an organization like this, because if that wasn’t the case I don’t know if my wife would be here today.”

The multi-tooled defensive back spent three seasons working with Giants coach Joe Judge during their stay with the New England Patriots from 2013-16. Signing a one-year deal this offseason, he’s been one of the few surprises on defense, recording 36 tackles, five pass deflections and one forced fumble.

As for Maher, give him a medal for the trainer of the year. Who knows, perhaps he’ll become the coolest doctor in East Rutherford a few years down the line?
