Chase Young already being declared out is very concerning for Washington

Chase Young is done for the day with a groin injury.

A return to Ohio didn’t go according to plan for Washington Football Team edge rusher Chase Young, who got injured in the first half of the team’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Young was quickly ruled out for the game with a groin issue, which is not good since the ruling from team officials came shortly after Young departed the field.

The no. 2 overall pick in April’s draft, Young has already had a tremendous impact on Washington’s defense, recording eight tackles and 2.5 sacks over the team’s first two games. The Football Team’s pass rush was a key factor in their comeback win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 when they sacked Carson Wentz eight times, and Young played a big role in that performance.

A groin injury for an edge rusher is a major concern since it could take a while to heal. Even if Young is able to return quickly, he may still be playing through the issue, which could impact his performance or lead to an aggravation that could sideline him even longer.

Injuries have wreaked havoc on the early going of the NFL season as stars like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, Nick Bosa and Michael Thomas have all gone down with various ailments. While Young’s injury doesn’t appear to be as serious as Barkley or Bosa’s, the fact that such an exciting young player could miss time is a bummer for all football fans.

In the end, Washington made the correct call to pull Young from this game to avoid the chance of him making things worse by playing through it. The Football Team goes to Baltimore next week and if they have a prayer of containing Lamar Jackson they really need to hope Young is good to go for that matchup.
