Whataburger is opening in Kansas City because of Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes just keeps on winning, and so does Kansas City.

This has been a hell of a year for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

He helped lead the Chiefs to a come-from-behind victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV, received a record-breaking $500 million contract extension and got engaged to his high school sweetheart, Brittany Matthews, after receiving his Super Bowl ring on Tuesday evening.

There’s no way Mahomes can keep winning at life, right? Wrong.

In 2018, Mahomes pleaded for fast-food restaurant, Whataburger, to bring a store to the Kansas City area. Two months ago, the burger chain said they had no plans to open a location, but would make an announcement once “the time is right.”

Well, it appears Wednesday was the perfect time for Whataburger to reveal that they’ll be opening up a location in Kansas City. And it’s all thanks to the influence of Mahomes!

2020: the Year of Mahomes

Whataburger is a Texas-based burger franchise that has hundreds of locations in the Lone Star State, with other stores opening up in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Mississippi and Arizona.

Considering Mahomes grew up in Texas and played ball at Whitehouse High School and Texas Tech, it’s safe to say he’s eaten at Whataburger more than a handful of times.

Mahomes is entering his third-season as the Chiefs starter, and he’s already accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. As a rookie in 2018, Mahomes walked away with the NFL MVP award in a blowout.

Then, he led the Chiefs to their second-ever Super Bowl victory. Now, he walks into their season-opener against the Houston Texans with the goal of adding another Lombardi Trophy to the Chiefs’ trophy case.

If you needed any further proof that 2020 is the year of Mahomes, look no further than his favorite burger chain is making the trek up to his new home city. Oh, and you can expect head coach Andy Reid to flash his Super Bowl ring for some free cheeseburgers.

The man said it himself! We’re sure Whataburger will happily oblige.
