Brett Favre wouldn’t mind seeing Aaron Rodgers play for a rival.
Aaron Rodgers’ remaining time with the Green Bay Packers was put in question the moment the team selected Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Fans were instantly shot back to 2005 when the exact same situation emerged with Rodgers and Brett Favre.
The two Packers greats didn’t seem to have the best relationship at the start, but all signs point toward both being friendly after the passing of time. Favre recently appeared on Complex’s “Load Management” podcast and shared a fun destination for Rodgers if the Packers decide to move on in favor of Love.
Brett Favre wants Rodgers in Chicago
Favre leaving Green Bay and having success with the Minnesota Vikings was enough to tear at the emotions of Packers fans. Rodgers being let go and joining the Chicago Bears would be another shocking sight for fans.
Favre’s rationale here is that he thinks it would be funny to see Bears fans embrace Rodgers after the way he has dominated the team during his time in Green Bay. While some Bears backers may not like such a move at first, a few victories would change their minds.
This is not a far-fetched idea either considering the situation in Chicago. Mitchell Trubisky is playing for a new contract in 2020 and Nick Foles’ contract runs through 2022. The dead cap on that year goes down to $3.67 million as well.
Rodgers deal runs through the 2023 season and the Packers may want to see what Love has before their star’s deal is up. Trading him to a division rival may seem insane, but it is better than cutting him loose for nothing in return.
The Packers created this drama by drafting Love. They made it clear he is the successor to Rodgers and it is only a matter of time before they push the veteran out the door. If the Bears put in a great offer, it will be hard to say no. And if the Packers do outright release Rodgers it would be on-brand for him to join the rival Bears and stick it to his old team.
