DeAndre Hopkins claps back at Kanye West’s bizarre Harriet Tubman rant

DeAndre Hopkins was not having Kanye West’s bizarre ‘campaign rally’ and clapped back with some common sense.

DeAndre Hopkins is impossible to cover, both on and off the field.

The Arizona Cardinals wide receiver proved his wit is as quick as his hands when he clapped back at Kanye West for invoking the name of Harriet Tubman to go on a rant during his first “campaign rally” in South Carolina on Sunday night.

Hopkins posted a photo of a Harriet Tubman $20 bill within hours of Kanye’s bizarre rant arguing that Harriet Tubman didn’t actually free slaves in the south rather she just helped transport and redress their servitude for northern Whites.

Kanye, who was roasted on Twitter for not only the Tubman portion of his rally but the entire event as a whole, is apparently running for president this year yet it’s unclear exactly what his strategy is or how serious is about it. Like most Ye projects of late, the move seemed extremely off-the-cuff and when coupled with his recent struggles, feels especially concerning. The voyeurs in attendance at Kanye’s rally audibly groaned when he spun off on his rant about Tubman.

Hopkins has been one of the most consistent and vocal voices in the fight against racial injustice these last few months. Even before the killing of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, Hopkins was at the forefront of speaking out against police brutality and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

He’s also gearing up for what could be one of his best seasons to date. The Houston Texans traded their superstar receiver to the Arizona Cardinals back in March, a move that pairs Hopkins with Kyler Murray and puts him in a perfect position to succeed in Kliff Kingsbury’s Air Raid offense.

We thought we’d already witnessed Hopkins at the peak of his powers, but he’s proving that both on and off the field we’ve only been given a taste of the heights he might soar to.
